ABOUT THE CLUB

Created before 1977, the University of Birmingham Archery Club is one of the oldest University archery clubs still influential and competitive within student archery. Originally named the Chamberlain Bowmen (after the university’s first Chancellor), the club has gone through many names throughout the years. Rebranded in 1979, due to AU rules, we changed to BUTTS, Birmingham University Toxophily and Toucan Society. Since 1979, toucans have been a large part of our club, as many members have their own toucan toy and members of the performance team can be seen with toucan stickers on their bows. In 1995 we created the BUTTS league (officially the BUTTS Challenge league) beginning with us challenging other clubs to competitions. It has now grown into one of the best and most challenging divisions of student archery. In the 2000s, when the University rebranded itself again, BUTTS followed suit and transformed from BUTTS to UBAC. Many of our esteemed alumni are still heavily involved with archery, including chairman for BUCS archery, shooting for Archery GB, and even becoming Olympians!

WHO WE ARE

The University of Birmingham Archery Club is one of the leading archery clubs in the country.
Our experienced team is undefeated two years running within our local league (BUTTS league).
This year, our experienced team also won five out of the six titles available; BUCS Indoors Ladies trophy, BUCS Indoors Mens trophy, BUTC Champions, BUTTS Indoors League Champions, and BUCS Outdoors Ladies trophy.
Our members hold a mix of records within our own league, all universities, and nationally. They’ve won international medals and BUCS individual medals.
Currently, we have five members who shoot for Archery GB.
Our novices also went thirteen competitions undefeated.
To top it off, we were awarded Performance Club of the Year 2017 by the University and Performance Team of the Year!

And in 2020 the Women's Team won Team of the Year at the University Sports Awards!

We’ve Got Team Spirit

At UBAC, we strive to be more than just an archery club. We want to be a family away from home, a solid support group, and lifelong friends. We want our members to feel like they belong, and like they are part of something. Engaging with the University’s mascot, the lion, we too are fiercely loyal. We strive to constantly do our best, and to support our members to also do their best when they struggle. No one is ever on their own at UBAC - while we compete individually we also compete as a team, and our team is always there for each other.
