CAN I JOIN THE CLUB AT ANYTIME?

Unfortunately, we can only accept new members at the beginning of the academic year, as popularity has been increasing in the past years and we have limited space, but we look forward to seeing you then!

WHAT TYPE OF BOW STYLES DOES THE CLUB OFFER?

The University of Birmingham Archery Club caters for a wide range of bow styles from longbow to compound and the Olympic style of recurve bows. In the past we have also had archers who shoot Mongolian bows, hunter bows, horseback archery and other less common styles.

HOW MUCH DOES THE CLUB COST?

The club runs a beginners course at the beginning of each academic year which costs £10 for those who are first-time archers or those who would like to join at the novice level.

Club membership is £114 for the whole year.

There is also the club development fee which is £16, which is paid when you join your first club at the university. i.e. if you do archery and badminton you only pay it once.

For novices, the total you will pay is £140 for the year, which includes the beginners' course, the University club development fee and membership to the Archery club.

For experienced members, it is £140 per year, which includes club membership and the University club development fee.

DO I HAVE TO BRING MY OWN KIT?

If you are starting archery for the first time or joining us at the novice level, we do not expect you to have your own equipment. The club has a numerous supply of all the equipment you will need to start shooting and start your archery journey.

You will not need to pay to borrow any of the bows, arrows, target faces, arm guards, finger tabs etc. Although further on in the year we do offer the choice of purchasing your own kit from the club.

If you do have your own set of kit, feel free to bring it along!

DO I NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE?

Birmingham archers have a history of doing exceptionally in national and regional leagues, however, archers of all abilities are welcome. So if you've never picked up a bow in your life, if you're an olympic gold medalist or if you're somewhere in between, you are welcome here!

ARE THERE COMPETITIONS?

The club has a competitive performance team who are required to attend coached sessions every week with our head coach. We attend University-wide competitions such as the BUTTS League and BUCS. For more information on competitions check out our competitions page!

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE JOINING?

If you want to succeed in this sport, you have to be prepared to put in the hours. We have a total of 8 hours official training time per week (11 if you make it to performance) and you will need to be prepared to make it to the vast majority of these to be the best you can be!
